"Yes, of course. In fact, we have a room that is always ready for a dragon and their rider. I believe its being made up for you as we speak and are you injured?" Artemis asked with frowned brows. "Come with me - we'll get you to your room, then I will find you a healer." she said. "Shaden? Can you carry her on your back? We need to get her to the house as soon as possible. Just follow me" she said and waited for the young elf to mount her dragon.

Elendrial smiled and carefully mounted Shaden's back. He had brought his head back and helped push her up a little.
"Thank you my dear friend. Yes, I am injured but it is not a simple injury. It involves a part of my past that I would like to never bring up. Let us go now to the room and forget dark pasts."
It was if she was trying to get off the subject of the injury. She sometimes felt ashamed of it, even though it was not her fault.

"Not while you are injured." Artemis replied shortly. She was not letting this dragon rider be stubborn and refuse treatment. The elves needed her whole and strong, and if there was anything anyone could do to help with this, Artemis was going to make sure that they helped. "Come on - the elves need you whole. I'm sure someone would be able to treat it."

Elendrial shook her head but knew that if she said that the elves couldn't do it, then Artemis would just disagree. But perhaps they really could help her.
"Let us go now."
Shaden's footsteps made loud thumps as they walked through the forest. His black scales shimmered as they passed in and out of the sunlight. If you watched closely, you'd swear they were changing colors, but maybe they were.

Artemis eyed her charge from the corner of her eye. She certainly had spirit and a personality that reminded Artemis of herself. Getting to know her will be even more fun now - if she survivesshe mused as she quickly lead the way to a tall tree with steps running to the top. A large tree house was perched at the top.
"Shaden, would you mind giving Elendrial a lift up to the top? She really shouldn't be negotiating stairs in her current condition. I will meet you up there." she stated, then began climbing the stairs two at a time.

Shaden nodded his head, and pushed his feet from the ground, flapping his leathery wings as well. He soared high above the tree, then back down toward a small opening and hovered there while waiting for Artemis.
Elendrial's breathing had started to weaken. It was as if everytime she though of her "injury" the more it harmed her. She prayed that Artemis would hurry.

Artemis made it to the top, a bit breathless but in good time. "Help me get her into the bed." she asked Shaden. After the two of them had accomplished that task, Artemis sprinted back down the stairs. Some of the finest healers were stationed in Ellesmera, and it was her duty to find the best.

Shaden laid down next to Elendrial's bed, and rested his head on her arm.
[/i]*Hang on little one. Everything will be alright. I'm here for you.*[/i]
Elendrial turned toward him and tried to speak, but as she did her body went limp and everything went black. She screamed but no sound came out, she inhaled but no air came in. All was lost if Artemis did not come back soon.

Artemis had just reached the bottom of the stairs when the small rock in her pouch gave an uncontrolled shudder. She was instantly filled with sense of dread. Something wasn't right, and it worried her. Artemis picked up her pace and flat out ran to the healer.
"Angela!" Artemis cried as she burst through the door. The herbalist from Teirm was on one of her random and unpredictable visits to the Elvish Capital. She was one of the best healers known, and Artemis thanked fate that she was here today.
Suddenly, the healer swept out of her back room. "What is it?" she asked. "There's a dragon rider - not Eragon, another one - and she's injured. Badly. We need your help."
Without a word, Angela went back into the back room and grabbed a small bag, then the elf and the healer made their way quickly back to the tree where Elendrial was staying.

As soon as Elendrial went limp, Shaden became fully alert. Thoughts raced through his head, memories from long ago. Although they did not belong to him, they belonged to the elf laying on the bed beside him. He winced at each of the images he saw.
A well built man, with a scar in the shape of a dragon on his left arm, chased a screaming child around the room. In his right hand was a long leather whip, with which he was hitting the air. The small girl's shrill screams pierced through the dark silent halls of the forbidding castle. The whip hit the girl's head many times and made red liquid poor from her face. Her legs and arms were covered in blood and bruises. Each time the whip cracked, the girl screamed louder and longer, tears running down her cheeks.
The image faded to another time in the same room. The girl, now older, sat upon her bead with a book in hand. Footsteps suddenly filled the room startling the girl. She sprang from her bed and out onto the deck, where she hid behind a wide pillar. A banging could be heard from her room. Someone was at the door and wanted in. Her breathing grew quieter as she stood there waiting for her doom.
A muffled yell came from the other end of the door to her room. It called her name. It swore to kill her. The bolts holding the door closed started to break. She knew they could not last much longer. This was the time, this was her time. A loud crack filled the room and a loud growl followed it. The man, now stronger and evil looking, rushed toward the deck and moved toward the girl. It was as if he could see right through that pillar; as if he knew she was already there. He yelled at her, but Shaden could not hear the words.
The man grabbed her by her hair and pulled her into the room. He through her to the floor and kicked her in the head. Once again the red liquid poured from her head. He kicked her again and again and again until she could no longer move. The world started to turn black and his vicious screams started to fade. The pain was numbing and everything seemed like a dream. The man pulled out a long black sword with a black gooey liquid on the end. She tried to scream but no sound escaped. She could only mutter the words "help." A stinging sensation filled her whole body and her leg felt as if it was on fire. This time, a high pitched piercing scream came from her mouth and then everything went black.
Shaden never realized his rider had gone through that. Sure he had seen some of her past, but she had never before revealed to him these devastating memories. Memories that she had wanted to forget even happened. He had seen many battles and brutal killings, but this, this was inhuman. It was like the man was slowly killing an innocent child. He figured that the thoughts kept replaying over and over in Elendrial's mind so he slowly created a picture. A picture of lush green pastures, of a gentle breeze and cooling river. He showed the two, dragon and rider, playing in the water not caring about anything at all. Elendrial seemed to relax a little but still the memories were there and Shaden could only hope Artemis came soon.

Artemis burst through the small trapdoor that lead into the room from the stairs below. She basically jumped into the room and made her way over to Elendrial instantly. Angela appeared a second later, breathing heavily. The climb had taken its toll on her, but she still instantly went over to the girl and pulled out some herbs.
Artemis watched as the healer did her work. After a bit, she turned to Shaden. "How did this happen?" she asked, knowing that it would hold some answers on how to cure her faster.

Shaden started to tell her, but stopped and decided to show the healer instead. He showed her the pictures he had just seen moments before. Hopefully she would know how to heal his rider. Shaden started to feel relaxed and as light as a feather. A strange humming noise came from the back of his skull but he did could not really hear it. Suddenly the humming grew louder and turned into a song. An elf with long black flowing hair seemed to be singing and running through the forest of his mind. She sang and laughed, never stopping, never once taking a rest. The elf seemed to call to Shaden; it was as if she wanted him where she was.
SHADEN!
The dragon immediately awoke from the trance and roared a booming roar that seemed to shake the whole city of Ellesmera. His scales changed from black to red and back again. It changed continuously, never stopping. The enraged beast flew from the room and out into the night sky. He flew and flew, burning everything in his path. His roar turned from deep to high pitched, almost like the cry of a shade as it dies.
Elendrial lept from her bed. It was as if all the energy that had left her, came back. She searched the room for her sword and when it was found, she jumped from the ledge of the room she was in. Surprisingly she had jumped far enough to land in another tree. Quickly the elf scampered down and ran as hard as she could through the forest. Nothing would get in her way, nothing. Her fury was like that of her dragon. The two would never slow down. Elendrial barely noticed how elves, men, women and children, darted to get out of the way of her flashing sword. By this time, she reached the edge of the city where only few elves lived. A small child ran up to her, laughing and playing with her doll. The girl wanted Elendrial to see it, and how her and her mother just finished making it. With a flash of the sword, Elendrial stabbed the child through the heart. At that very moment time stopped. Elendrial awoke from her rage and stared at the child lying in front of her. What had she done? The child was barely breathing. Elendrial quickly picked the child up and held her in her arms. The child's eyes were big and bright blue. The girl forced her lips to form to these three words, "I forgive you." Elendrial's began to tear as she held the child close. The elf picked up the sword lying beside her and cut of about an inch of the child's long golden hair. She tied it to the inside of her cloak and picked up the doll the child had in her arms. Elendrial sobbed as she gently placed the child on the ground and turned to run, but an army of elves surrounded her on all sides.

Artemis forced her way through the crowd that had gathered, breathing fairly heavily. When Shaden had taken off, she had known something was wrong, but when Elendrial followed suit... Artemis had sprinted the entire way here - burn marks were especially easy to follow - but had been too late. Her heart had broken when she had seen the limp form clutched in Elendrial's arms. What have I done? I allowed them out of my sight, and now look... A child is dead. "Out of my way!" Artemis growled as she pushed closer to her new friend. She wrapped an arm around Elendrial and lead her to the edge of the circle. Artemis stared at the other elves, and after they saw the sheer anger and hurt in her eyes, they reluctantly parted allowing the pair to go through.
Artemis lead the way to a nearby watch station. After ordering all the other guards out, she set Elendrial on the floor, then bent to look into her eyes. "What just happened back there?" she asked quietly yet forcefully. She was angry, but it wasn't in her nature to yell. She had found that this was much more effective.
