A warm summer’s breeze stirred tops of the gigantic trees that encircled Ellesméra proper as a group of elves made their way towards the center of the city. War had been beckoning for months now and the Elves were preparing for battle. The great city had been set up as a headquarters, and everyone that would take part in the fast approaching battle was hastily making their way there.
Artemis sighed. It had been a long trek from her home in the north to the capital city, and the thought of not sleeping on the ground for once was a pleasant one. She as well as her men were tired from the trip and were looking forward to some well earned rest before they marched even further south. I wonder how far south that will actually be? she asked herself. There was trouble stirring in the Beor Mountains as well as Surda. But come to think of it, there is trouble everywhere to the south. Truthfully, she didn’t know where they would end up or how long of a stay they would have in the city. The uncertainty made her uneasy.
At a fork in the path, Artemis left her men and headed for the main pavilion to inform the Queen that she had arrived. Or that was the reason she gave herself for going. The real reason was to see her father, one of the 24 councilors to the Queen herself. He had been gone for many months, preparing for the battle that was looming just over the horizon. His daughter had begun to miss him. Fortunately there had been quite a bit to do at home, but now that she was here with her missions accomplished, the feeling just kept getting stronger.
Artemis was so enthralled with thoughts, feelings, and memories as she strolled along the path that she forgot to look where she was walking. Suddenly, a collision jarred her back to the present. “Im so sorry” she stated as she turned around quickly to see if she could offer any assistance to the person she had nearly run over.
